Background
This week I patched my lab Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) Catalog database from 19.27 to 19.32 using the Oracle AutoUpgrade tool.
On connecting to the Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) Catalog database I was presented with the following:
PL/SQL package RMAN.DBMS_RCVCAT version 19.27.00.00. in RCVCAT database is not current
$ rman target=/ catalog=rman/***@//z-rac1/catpdb
Recovery Manager: Release 19.0.0.0.0 - Production on Thu Oct 8 11:58:45 2026
Version 19.32.0.0.0

connected to target database: DEMOCDB (DBID=391389526)
connected to recovery catalog database
PL/SQL package RMAN.DBMS_RCVCAT version 19.27.00.00. in RCVCAT database is not current
PL/SQL package RMAN.DBMS_RCVMAN version 19.27.00.00 in RCVCAT database is not current
The Simple Fix
The Oracle message is telling me that my Oracle Recovery Manager Catalog schema version is older than the version of the RMAN client connecting to it.
In this example the Oracle RMAN Catalog is 19.27, but the database client is 19.32.
This is easy fixed by upgrading the catalog with upgrade catalog, you will need to enter twice to confirm, for example:
RMAN> upgrade catalog
upgrade catalog
recovery catalog owner is RMAN
enter UPGRADE CATALOG command again to confirm catalog upgrade
RMAN> upgrade catalog
upgrade catalog
recovery catalog upgraded to version 19.32.00.00.00
DBMS_RCVMAN package upgraded to version 19.32.00.00
DBMS_RCVCAT package upgraded to version 19.32.00.00.
From the above we can see that DBMS_RCVMAN and DBMS_RCVCAT packages have been upgraded to the current database version.
Problem fixed!
